According to the reports, the incident took place when a fragment of concrete fell off the damaged building and hit the woman’s head. Local authorities confirmed that the victim’s body was found under the debris of the building, and she was declared dead at the scene.
The incident raises significant concerns about the safety of people living near old and neglected buildings in the city. The issue is not only limited to Kadikoy but is prevalent in many other areas of Istanbul and other cities in Turkey, where there are many old and neglected buildings that pose a severe threat to the public.
In response to the incident, local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and who is responsible for the maintenance of the building. However, negligence and lack of government oversight are often to blame for such accidents.
The tragic incident is a stark reminder of how vulnerable people are to the dangers posed by old and damaged buildings. It is essential that the concerned authorities take immediate steps to prevent similar accidents in the future. The government needs to create a framework for regular inspections and preventive maintenance of buildings, particularly in areas where old structures are common.
Furthermore, people living in areas with old and deteriorating buildings must also remain vigilant and report any signs of critical damage or neglect to the authorities immediately. A proactive approach can help in preventing deadly accidents like the one that occurred in Kadikoy.

Measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the public, and no one should have to lose their life due to the negligence of those responsible for the maintenance of buildings. Let this tragic incident not go in vain, and may we take steps as a society to make our cities safer for all.
