İskoçya Başbakanı Nicola Sturgeon’un geçtiğimiz şubat ayında istifa etmesinin ardından İskoçya Ulusal Partisi’nin (SNP) yeni lideri seçildi.
Yapılan oylamada Sağlık Bakanı Humza Yousaf, rakipleri Kate Forbes ve Ash Regan’ı mağlup ederek SNP’nin yeni lideri oldu.
Yousaf, SNP’nin 72 bin 169 üyesinden 50 bin 490’ının oy kullandığı seçim yarışının birinci etabında yüzde 48, ikinci etabında ise yüzde 52 oy aldı.
Yarın İskoçya parlamentosunda yapılacak oylamanın ardından Yousaf’ın resmi olarak İskoçya Başbakanı olarak atanması bekleniyor.
Parlamentoda herhangi bir partiye mensup milletvekillerinin de aday olabileceği ve tercih ettikleri aday için oy kullanabileceği bir seçimde Yousaf’ın galip gelmesine kesin gözüyle bakılıyor.
İskoçya parlamentosunun 28 gün içinde yeni bir başbakan seçmemesi durumunda yeniden seçime gidilecek.
